Simple Ways to Invest in Your Community

January 31, 2018

Melrose is a city blessed with a strong sense of community and it’s rewarding to be a part of it. Just walking along Main Street, you can pass by friends and neighbors, and find one-of-a-kind restaurants, stores and businesses that are blossoming. That’s a good thing for all of us. We live in a city where people do their part to ensure the community thrives in every way it can. Whether it’s an investment of time, energy, or resources, you, too, can give back to the community and make a difference. It’s a rewarding, positive, and powerful thing to do.

Why is it good to invest in your community?

Paying it forward can help meet the underserved needs of individuals and businesses and can create a positive impact on the community as a whole. When our efforts are directed toward building up those around us, the community becomes stronger. And, the greatest return is often just the good feeling that comes from knowing you are giving back.

How can you best invest in your community?

The best way to invest in your community is to think local. Whether it’s volunteering at local charities, shopping at local businesses, or banking at your local community bank, there are many actions you can take on a daily basis to support our economy and the needs of neighbors. Simple ways to contribute to the well-being of our community include:

Individual Efforts

  1. Volunteer at a hospital, food pantry, school, etc.
  2. Shop at local businesses.
  3. Donate to local charities.
  4. Coach a local youth team.
  5. Serve on a community board.

Business Efforts

  1. Donate a portion of your sales to a local charity.
  2. Promote other local businesses through your business.
  3. Participate in local charitable fundraisers.
  4. Sponsor youth teams.
  5. Sponsor an event, performance, road race, etc.

Let’s continue to help our community thrive. The next time you’re wondering how you can invest in the community, start small. Simple changes could have a big impact. Where are you shopping? Is it a chain store or a locally-owned shop? Are you donating to national charities or local ones? Are you shopping/banking/dining at those businesses that support our community? There are endless ways you can invest in the community, and we encourage you to think outside the box.
