Melrose, MA- April 9, 2014- Melrose Bank recently made a $677 donation towards the Melrose Emergency Fund. The money was raised through a “Likes for Charity” fundraiser on their Facebook Page along with their “Denim Days” fundraiser.
The purpose of the Melrose Emergency Fund is to provide one-time help to Melrose residents experiencing financial emergencies. The majority of the assistance provided by the fund is for basic needs—food, fuel, and utilities. During a particularly rough winter, contributions were made to help heat the homes of Melrose residents.
“The Melrose Bank has been an outstanding member of our business community for many years, and I am grateful that they are giving back to the community in this way. Thanks to their generous donation--and the enthusiasm of their employees and customers--we will be able to provide heat, food, and other necessities to local families when they need it most. I want to thank the Melrose Bank for being such a good neighbor,” said Mayor Rob Dolan.
The “Likes for Charity” fundraiser raised $1 for every new “Like” to the Melrose Bank Facebook Page or for every “Share” of a post that pertained to the Melrose Emergency Fund.
“The Melrose Emergency Fund is working to ensure that no one in Melrose goes cold or hungry, and we are happy that we have been able to contribute to this, and to the immediate needs of Melrose families in crisis,” said Melrose Bank President, Jeff Jones.
Melrose Bank employees raise money each week through Denim Day donations. Employees contribute three dollars each Friday they wear jeans to work. Most choose to donate whether or not they wear jeans. These donations further fund charities in the community. The “Denim Days” fundraiser is ongoing, and since it’s inception, Melrose Bank employees have raised over $19,000 through their own donations. Founded in 1890, Melrose Bank is an independent, mutually owned community bank dedicated to providing financial resources and support for the community. Products and services include full-service banking, residential mortgages, consumer loans and retirement plans. All deposits are insured in full by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and the Share Insurance Fund. For more information, please visit melrosebank.com or facebook.com/MelroseBank.
