Get Green with the City of Melrose and Melrose Bank

Melrose, MA – The City of Melrose and Melrose Bank are cosponsoring a citywide drop off recycling event on Saturday, June 20. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the City Yard, 72 Tremont Street. PROSHRED® will be at the event to shred personal papers.

“Providing opportunities for Melrose residents and businesses to both recycle and protect themselves from identity theft is an important city initiative,” said Jeffrey D. Jones, president of Melrose Bank. “After the success of the bank’s shredding event last year, we knew that the people of Melrose wanted to take advantage of more opportunities like this drop off recycling day.”

Melrose residents and business owners can bring two boxes of paper to be shredded free of charge by PROSHRED®. After the two box limit, a charge of $5.00 per box will be applied and donated to the Mayor’s Emergency Fund. Computers, televisions, tires, fluorescent bulbs, mercury thermometers, eyeglasses and cell phones may also be recycled at the event. There will be a fee of $8.00 for each truck tire, $7.00 for each television and computer monitor and $2.00 for each car tire. Dried latex paint will also be accepted at the event.

For more information on the event or to volunteer, call Bob Costa, Melrose Recycling Committee volunteer, at 781-665-7876. To find out more on recycling in Melrose, visit the Department of Public Works (DPW) webpage at http://www.cityofmelrose.org/.
