Melrose, MA – Melrose Bank announced today that their 2007 company wide “Denim Days” donations totaled $2,623. The bank, which adopted “Denim Days” in 2006, donated the money to 12 different charities throughout the year, ranging from St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital to Homes for our Troops.
“It’s great to see donations continue to grow through our staff’s generosity and enthusiasm,” Jim Oosterman, vice president of marketing for the bank said, “but we’re only getting started—our employees are looking forward to making more positive changes in the community through ‘Denim Days’ in 2008.”
Employees pay three dollars each week for the privilege of wearing denim to work on Friday. The money collected is donated to a different charitable organization at an employee’s suggestion each month. Most employees contribute to the selected charity whether or not they wear jeans, and many employees pre-pay at the beginning of every month, generally making larger contributions. Each donation helps to fund programs, advocacy, research and services through charities in the community.
